Player Profile: Leon Powe
Player Profile: Leon PoweThe next installment of the Player Profile will look at the hard nosed Leon Powe.
Powe was recovering from a torn ACL & meniscus when the Cavaliers signed him to a 2 year deal last August, with a team option on year 2.
Leon averaged 4 points & 3 rebounds in 20 games for the Cavaliers last season, playing in just under 12 minutes per night in those 20 contests.

No doubt Leon is best known for his toughness under the basket. He has a nose for the ball, especially on the offensive glass, and gets to the free throw line at an incredible rate. That’s his offensive game, and he plays it very well. While he won’t score on his own or create a lot for others, he will hit the occasional mid-range jumper. His creativity & constant activity make it difficult for opponents to guard him without fouling.
Defensively, his strength, wingspan, and athleticism make him a solid defender. He’s very good at using the fundamentals to effectively defend his opponent, although he does tend to be foul prone. Leon’s a great rebounder & does a lot of the little things, such as diving for loose balls and taking charges.
It’ll be interesting to see how Leon’s mobility will look this season with his knee closer to 100%. With Byron Scott wanting to run, Powe’s knee will definitely be tested. With the excess of power forwards on the roster, how much time Powe actually gets will likely vary, and he could end up seeing some time at the center position in certain match-ups.

I really like Powe and think he is a great post up player for his size. I may be wrong here but isn`t he the only active CAVS player with a ring?
Mark Cameron August 4th
Yep, Shaq was the only other one with a ring on last year’s squad. Barring a Shannon Brown signing (full circle?) or the acquisition of someone else who played for a championship squad, he’ll be the only one.

I was dissapointed he was not on the floor more last season but he was limping at times. Considering the injury and limited playing time he still impressed me. Look for good things from this player next season.
Somehow he is under the radar when people think of our current roster.
