Player Profile: Jawad Williams

The next installment of the Player Profile is Jawad Williams, the “new hometown hero.”

The Cleveland born forward got a shot with his hometown team & showed that he can play at the NBA level. While his minutes were inconsistent, he showed some good things on the court. Jawad is currently a restricted free agent & the Cavaliers will have a decision to make if he signs an offer sheet with another team.

6′9 SF

Contract Status: Restricted Free Agent

Jawad Williams finally received a shot to showcase his talents during the 2009-2010 season, and with his hometown team to boot. A 6′9 forward, Jawad is best suited as a 3, but could provide some solid “stretch 4″ minutes in certain situations.

Jawad proved to be more than capable of knocking down the 3 ball, and is solid, albeit a bit inconsistent, at creating his own shot. He even received some chances in the post, where he’s very good at taking advantage of mismatches. While he won’t win any defensive awards, Jawad is a solid defender who will get in the opponents’ face to force him into a tough shot. His length makes it difficult for opposing small forwards to get easy shots off on him.

Jawad has a couple of choices. He can either a) Accept the Cavaliers qualifying offer of $1.02 M or b) Decline it. If he declines it, the Cavaliers can still match any offer Jawad receives in free agency. Unless a team offers Jawad something outrageous, expect him to accept the QO or the Cavs to match the offer he receives.

I’ll be interested to see if Jawad accepts his QO. It’s likely he does as I don’t see other teams beating down his door.

I really hope to see Jawad take his qualifying offer and stay put. The fact that #6 tried to recruit him pisses me off. I want to see him in Cleveland getting a good look this season.

Yeah, I highly doubt Jawad will decline his QO.

Not sure how much time he’d get, but I’d like to see him stay & at least get a decent look.
